Opioid Epidemic

Hello to all fellow VISTAs!  We, here in fort Myers Fl., are 1 of 3 Florida FT projects knighted in this fight. (Hello to our brothers and sisters in Tampa and Jacksonville.) We are great proponents of the overdose treatment/reversal drug known as NARCAN (nalaxone). A single 4 mg dose during an overdose event can block the key receptors and aid in saving lives. (I'm sure most of you are aware of this.) The ODs as we know are happening in   bathrooms and parking lots of "big box" stores' fast food parking lots, and malls. These places need to keep NARCAN handy. I am asking you to join me in signing letters which I will write to all the above to raise their awareness. In turn, I am always ready to support the efforts of my brothers and sisters of VISTA.  Thank you!!

Hi Leif,

I would love to know more about your project, here in El Paso TX we are about to work in a similar project against the Opioid epidemic, I would like to know more about your program and how did you started? we are on the 1st year program and the barely started doing research.

Humberto, First of all Welcome and Good luck! There are many ways to start, but the associate here started by connecting with anti- drug groups and researching local and state data. I attended some  medical presentations on the history of opioids and how they reached the market to begin with. (Keep in mind the project here is covering 6 FL counties with just 1 associate.) We would be happy to share all our research. Please connect with me through VISTA CAMPUS so we may email each other. Also The Tampa Opioid Research Network (TORN) has been a great source.Let's stay in touch. Like you, we are still learning ourselves. Now Go Be SUPERHEROS!!
