Question: leaving one week early, still get a stipend?

I will be ending my VISTA year officially February 13th, however I was given a good job offer contingent on my being able to move to DC by February 6th...

I spoke to my supervisor at the agency I serve and she had no problem letting me leave a week early for a good opportunity, but she, nor I, know how this will affect me receiving the end of service stipend. As good as this new opportunity is, it will be very difficult for me to pass up the stipend.

Who should I contact about this? I have actually had almost no contact with VISTA/Americorps outside of my reports, a good thing, I think (no problems or issues to report).

My service has been in Eastern Virginia.

I'm in Boston and some girls in my Vista Cohort ask about leaving early to start graduate school and they were told they would need to use their vacation days to make up the time. They were told that the sites weren't incharge and that they had signed up for 365 days of service.

I hope that helps.

If a member's service is ended for compelling personal circumstances, the member will receive a prorated stipend. Please refer to the end-of-service stipend section of the VISTA Handbook - http://vistacampus.org/mod/book/view.php?id=2093&chapterid=2111.

It is your State Office - not your sponsor - that can make a final determination if your circumstances are compelling and warrant a pro-rated stipend.

Please contact the VA State Office at VA@cns.gov or (804) 771-2197.
