Vista Online Courses

Hello everyone!

I was wondering what other VISTAS who have taken the online courses thought about them, specifically the amount of work and how you balance work-school life.

Hi Christian!

I've taken both VISTA Blend Courses and enjoyed them. The first course took was the Volunteer Mobilization course. It had been about a year since I was in a "structured" class setting so I had to adjust to working full-time and submitting coursework for the VISTA Blend course, but I was able to manage well. My second time around, I was better prepared for taking on an online course, working and balancing it all effectively. I was also able to include a couple of traditional, in-class courses at my Host Site (which is a state College). That was a bit challenging for me, as this was also a busy time for my VISTA project, but managed to come out unscathed lol. To balance it all, I set aside small amounts of time each week to dedicate to whatever the assignment was so that it didnt pile up on me. I also read ahead as much as I could to prepare for the assignments and discussions.

I recommend taking either of the VISTA Blend courses because they are useful in the work we do, can be helpful for our work post VISTA, and you'll have the ability to use those courses to count toward a college credit on your transcripts. These courses do come with submission deadlines, so if you're just wanting to get your feet wet in taking an online course, I recommend taking up a course through Coursera.com or other free online course sites (google them, they're plentiful). You'll have nothing to lose and it will give insight for you on how you can effectively juggle online coursework while completing your job duties.

Hope this helps!-Jessica
