The Multicultural Center provides multicultural mental health, clinical case management and immigration legal services to address the needs of low-income, English-limited immigrants, asylees, and refugees for whom existing services are inaccessible due to language and cultural barriers. Clients include individuals from all cultural and ethnic groups whose mental health and socio-economic stability is compromised as a result of trauma, poverty, chronic stress, and other challenges posed by the process of cultural adjustment. Trauma informed services are provided by bilingual, bicultural counselors, therapists, clinical case managers and attorneys. 

The Clinical Case Manager provides intensive social services case management to clients of NVFS’ Multicultural Center who are typically immigrants and refugees exposed to traumatic experiences including, but not limited to domestic violence, sexual assault, and trafficking. The Clinical Case Manager ensures their comprehensive needs are met which includes social, medical, psychological, spiritual, and legal. The Clinical Case Manager also provides individual and group services that help promote the overall wellbeing of trauma survivors, conducts outreach and trainings in the community, serves as liaison with community partners, and in general, represents the case management program in the community. The Clinical Case Manager assesses client needs, shares resources, makes referrals, and meets regularly with active clients in the office setting. The Clinical Case Manager helps clients learn new coping skills, build on their existing ones, and identify triggers so that clients can more easily achieve their goals. The Clinical Case Manager works with a team that supports the goal of moving clients towards greater self-reliance. The Clinical Case Manager will also serve as a liaison with other service providers on behalf of clients. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this role will be working remotely until at least September 2021.

Client Service Delivery:

  • Conduct initial screening process, including documentation, to determine client’s eligibility for services under specific grants or contracts (i.e. ORR Certifications and USCRI enrollment for new T-visa clients).
  • Manage caseload of approximately 70 client cases per year; manage development of a client-centered treatment and service plan based on information gathered during assessments, consultations, and evaluations.
  • Conduct comprehensive case management assessment to determine individual client strengths, needs, resources and support systems.
  • Work with clients to identify and prioritize the clients’ needs and establish goals for service.
  • Work with survivors of domestic violence by providing education, support and advocacy around risk assessments, safety planning, protective orders, among others.
  • Serve as referral/liaison between clients and other internal and external treatment programs.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions, psychoeducation, and help clients learn and develop coping skills with a strengths-based trauma-informed approach with the goal of removing barriers to clients’ self-sufficiency.
  • Research and coordinate internal and external resources; link client with community providers to provide collaborative services.
  • Make referrals to connect clients to needed resources and services.
  • Actively participate in training and case consultation sessions with treatment team including presentations of cases.
  • Plan, develop, and facilitate client cultural orientation, workshops and education programs based on community need.

Compliance and Reporting Requirements:

  • Complete appropriate documentation of services provided (e.g. progress notes, outcomes) using NVFS-approved software.
  • Maintain client files in accordance with program/licensing/state and NVFS guidelines.
  • Perform other indirect service activities that may include: data gathering, report and proposal writing, and other Agency committee work as directed by supervisor.

Meeting and Community Outreach/Resource Participation:

  • Create and maintain partnerships with local service providers and faith communities.
  • Maintain and update a list of resources and services accessible by trauma survivors.
  • Represent the Multicultural Center and NVFS effectively in the community and maintain communication with multiple coalitions, councils, and tasks forces; act as a liaison with community, civic, and business groups on behalf of the program; participate in appropriate community task force committees.
  • Conduct trainings and presentations on topics related to working with Trauma Survivors such as brief mental health interventions, family communication and cultural competency in order to increase service providers’ ability to respond effectively to the needs of immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers and other trauma survivors.
  • Participate in regular supervision meetings by providing regular updates and preparing case presentations.
  • Participate effectively and positively in required Program and Agency meetings and trainings.

Qualification and Additional Requirements:  An individual may obtain skills through a variety of professional, personal, educational, and volunteer experiences. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform essential job duties.   

  • Must have one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university plus three (3) years of professional social work or case management experience; OR
    • Master's degree in Social Work or other human services field, plus one (1) year of professional social work or case management experience.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with victims of domestic violence, immigrants, refugees and or/other trauma survivors.
  • Must be able to develop client relationships that facilitate effective assessment and delivery of services that support client self-sufficiency.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Trauma-Informed approaches to service delivery.
  • Prior experience in developing and providing group-based trainings and workshops for client populations, community members, and/or professionals a plus.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish required; additional language skills always welcome.
  • Proficiency in usage of basic technological tools including laptops/computers, email, phones, and internet required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate and live the organizational values of Communication, Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, and Accountability.

  • Successful completion of background checks required upon hire
