VISTA Leader Orientation

Look for details about your orientation. Once enrolled in orientation, you'll be asked to complete a travel request profile in MyAmeriCorps. A few weeks before orientation, you'll receive a welcome packet with travel and hotel details, so be sure your email and mailing address are up-to-date in My AmeriCorps.VISTA Leader Orientation is a 3½-day training designed to enhance your understanding of leadership and the roles of a VISTA leader.

It's an opportunity to examine your existing and potential leadership skills and see ways to apply them to the VISTA leader role. You'll connect with other leaders, explore ways to engage your capacities, and challenge conventional thinking about leadership.

You'll likely start your leader role weeks before Leader Orientation, so bring your real-life examples and challenges in order to get support.

Essential Preparation

Please review the agenda, complete the two activities, print them and bring them to orientation.

  1. Review the VISTA Leader Orientation Agenda (PDF)
  2. Complete and print the Interpersonal Communications Assessment (Doc)
  3. Write and print a Leadership Definition (Doc)
