What is Together for Tomorrow?
A joint initiative between CNCS, the U.S. Department of Education, and the White House to propel improvement of our lowest-performing schools; by spotlighting and fostering partnerships among schools, families, national service programs, and community-based organizations. At the heart of this effort are demonstration sites that are underway in seven cities, where AmeriCorps VISTAs are working in target schools to advance the key goals of TFT:
- Celebrate and inspire community and family engagement in education and strengthen a community culture of education success;
- Foster the capacity of low-performing schools to manage school-community partnerships; and
- Focus community partnerships on boosting key measurable student outcomes – Attendance, Behavior, Course performance, and College access (the ABCs) – as a means to improve low-performing schools.
Out of these demonstration sites evolved the Together for Tomorrow School Improvement Challenge at TFT.devpost.gov. There are approximately 50 VISTAs at the TFT demonstration sites.
Together for Tomorrow targets Department of Education School Improvement Grant (SIG) schools and priority schools.
