During the recruitment process, I've been asked by our incoming VISTA members how to find housing in Chicago. As a VISTA Leader who relocted to Boston and Chicago for service I wanted to put together a resource guide for our VISTA members who relocate for service. I hope this document can give you some ideas to put together a housing resource guide for your VISTA members.

If you are unable to get VISTA posters to display at your members' sites, here is one we created in my office. It has our all-corps logo and information, but you can replace it with yours, or delete it. We just printed them out and laminated them.

  • The previous VISTA Leader, Alexandra Scarborough, created a template and I have edited and filled it in for our Septmber edition. Uploaded to provide an example of one form of communication between Leaders and VISTAs. An advisory council of engaged VISTA members helps to edit and curate the monthly newsletter in addition to me, the current VISTA Leader. We try to cover relevant topics, resources, and will provide follow up from our different events at ShareCorps such as days of service and professional development meetings.

A simple infographic that is designed to help sub-sites determine whether or not VISTA is really the right alley for them. The language sets certain expectations and lets sites self-identify as a qualified site or not. Focus is on the motivation for having a VISTA and differentiates between needing another employee vs opting to host a VISTA.

I made this document to highlight the benefits member in a national (verse state) program receive. It can be challenging to be part of a team that is not be able to meet in person, but this document highlights some of the experiences national members can gain. Feel free to edit and share this with your members.

The creation of a sustainability/exit binder establishes a framework that assures the integrity of their work even if the VISTA is no longer at their site. Attached is an example made by a member serving within a legal immigration department.
